The Sabi Sand is home to some of the world’s oldest, newest, finest and most exclusive private game lodges and frequently plays host to celebrities and politicians from around the world.
Unlike many conservation areas that have been founded over the years, the Sabi Sand has only ever been a wilderness area. Established in 1948, the reserve now consists of 65 000 hectares of pristine bush. The land is unfenced between landowners and shares a 50km unfenced border with the Kruger National Park, allowing complete freedom of movement for the game. The perennial Sabi and Sand Rivers, after which the reserve is named, provide a constant supply of water.
There are 17 commercial lodges from which to choose and it works very well to combine a couple of them over a week-long stay or to spend a couple of nights here before exploring the Kruger National Park itself
