With walls built from authentic buffalo dung, Camp Shawu reflects the Africa described by famous explorers of colonial times. Located in the 20 000 hectare private concession in the south-eastern section of the Kruger National Park, the camp has five large rooms overlooking the Mpanamana Dam. All the rooms are equipped with romantic ball-and-claw baths, a sitting area facing the fireplace, ceiling fans and outside shower. Large verandas provide the ideal location to view the game coming down to the dam to drink. The central facility has a lounge, indoor and outdoor dining area and a splash pool. Camp Shawu offers walking trails on request, where guests can experience a typical old-fashioned safari first-hand. Safaris in open four-wheel-drive vehicles are also available.
Access by road from Johannesburg (approx 5 hours 30 minutes) or Maputo (approx 1 hour 20 minutes). Camp Shawu is best accessed by road through the Crocodile Bridge Gate of the Kruger National Park, from where it is approximately 14 kms to the Lodge. Air access is to one of the airports in the area: Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) – 110 Km; Maputo Airport (Mozambique) - 125 km or Malelane Airport - 70 km. Guests are met upon arrival and transferred to the Lodge by road.
