This 7 500-hectare Big Five private game reserve is not only malaria-free, but spans five ecosystems, resulting in a breathtaking diversity of plants and animals. Of the six vegetation types in South Africa, five occur naturally on Lalibela. Of these, the Valley Bushveld biome, which only occurs in the Eastern Cape, has the highest carrying capacity of game in South Africa. For this reason Lalibela is able to sustain one of the densest populations of wildlife in the world.
Lalibela is home to the Big Five, being lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. Unique to the area, Lalibela has no public roads running through its property. All of the animals, including the predators, are free-roaming throughout the entire reserve. The three main aspects of any safari are game-viewing, accommodation and food and Lalibela takes special care to ensure that heartfelt service combines with these three aspects to ensure a memorable African safari experience. Lalibela has three lodges - Lentaba Lodge, Mark’s Camp and Tree Tops - all offering décor that is infused with the essence of Africa, warm and friendly service and unforgettable game-viewing.
On open vehicle game-drives guests will experience the Big Five, as well as cheetah, African wild dog, hippo, giraffe, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope.
Food is true safari cuisine with an emphasis on local specialties, ranging from centuries-old recipes to exciting contemporary African dishes. A special children’s programme is offered at Mark’s Camp.
