Shamwari, a 25 000 hectare, malaria-free, private game reserve, is situated at the end of the Garden Route. Shamwari boasts five eco-systems and, in November 2001, a portion of Shamwari became the first privately owned wilderness area in Africa.
Accommodation is offered in seven separate luxury lodges, namely Long Lee Manor, Bushman's River Lodge, Riverdene Lodge, Lobengula Lodge, Bayethe Lodge, Eagles Crag & Sarili Lodge. Shamwari’s highly trained game-rangers accompany guests on morning and evening game-drives.
The reserve is host to a Born Free Foundation Centre, providing a sanctuary for big cats that have been rescued from captive conditions.
