Spionkop Lodge, set against the backdrop of the majestic Drakensberg mountains on an expansive 700-hectare game farm, was the site of General Buller’s headquarters during the relief of the Ladysmith campaign. The beautifully restored, colonial-style farmhouse is set in tranquil, secure grounds and has superb views. The lodge has a library with an excellent collection of books, a bistro, the cosy Churchhill pub and a swimming-pool. The owner and registered guide, Raymond Heron, accompanies guests to the many historic Battlefield sights. Other activities include sunset cruises, game-viewing, birding, hiking, river rafting and fishing.
